Easy KEYS is a control panel device which lets you assign function keys or key combinations to launch FKEYs, applications or desk accessories. With Easy KEYS, you can keep FKEYs anywhere on your disk, instead of in the system file and assign them to any key combination.
INSTALLING Easy KEYS
Just drop the Easy KEYS file in your system folder (or control panels folder under system 7). Put the Easy KEYS Prefs file in the system folder (under system 6 or 7). You can immediately use the control panel device to define keys, but you must reboot once after installing Easy KEYS before any key combinations will be recognized. (From then on, you can assign and deassign key combinations without ever having to reboot.)
USING Easy KEYS
The Easy KEYS control panel shows a list of key combinations with the name of the FKEY, application, or desk accessory that they launch. When you first open Easy KEYS, the list will be empty. Use the Assign button to make new key assignments. After clicking the Assign button a list of choices will appear. Double click on the type of assignment you wish to make: FKEY, Application, or Desk Accessory. Keys from the keypad and function keys can be used alone or in combination with modifier keys (shift, control, option, and command). Normal typing keys (such as letters, numbers, return, and delete) must be used in combination with at least one modifier key other than shift.
Key combinations are indicated with symbols for the modifier keys as follows:
Note: While you have the Easy KEYS control panel open, the keyboard assignments you have made will be disabled. You must first close the control panel to verify or use them.
